The Breastfeeding Network (BfN) is a UK-wide, independent, voluntary organisation providing information and support for breastfeeding women and those involved in their care. It offers training for volunteers, provides telephone and face-to-face support and runs the Drugs in Breastmilk Helpline.

Story

If you've known me for longer than about five years, you may struggle to imagine that I occasionally hop out of bed in the morning and go for a 10 or 11 mile run before breakfast.  But on 11 October I'll be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon, and as I'm determined to enjoy the run, these days it can and does happen that I do.

To make the most of this improbable turn of events, I'm raising funds and awareness for a charity close to my heart – the Breastfeeding Network – and in particular their helpline service for safe drugs in breastmilk.

The Breastfeeding Network’s Drugs in Breastmilk helpline provides support and information to thousands of families and health professionals every year. Wendy Jones, a highly experienced and trained pharmacist offers breastfeeding support alongside evidence based information to anyone who is concerned about the effects of medication or treatments while breastfeeding. The helpline number (0844 412 4665) and email address (druginformation@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk) can be used to leave messages for Wendy, who also publishes a range of information sheets on a wide variety of topics available on the BfN website.
