Story
You may have seen Strictly's judge Anton Du Beke's story about his struggle with his alcoholic, violent father, which he has recently shared on the news.
Unfortunately, child abuse is much more common than we would like to think. Parents can be stretched thin, depressed, and lonely, and often they would have suffered abuse themselves. Their children take on all the abuse and neglect handed down the generations, with no one to turn to.
Silenced, hurt, and completely powerless - there is nowhere to go.
The damage child abuse and neglect causes is ever-lasting. It is not something one can just "shurg it off". It leads to depression, anxiety, addiction, criminality, and possibly suicide.
The NSPCC has been safeguarding children for over a century. In the span of five years, due to the kindness of their supporters, volunteers, and staff, they facilitated the safety of over 6.6 million children from abuse. The organization has introduced innovative services to assist families, advocated for legal amendments, disseminated knowledge about abuse and its identification, and crafted novel resources for children, parents, and professionals. However, their mission continues beyond these achievements.
On the 1st of October coming, I will be running the Cardiff Half-Marathon on behalf of raising money for the NSPCC to help them continue their valuable work, and all donations will go directly to them.
Please give generously if this is a cause you care about, and you have some money to spare.
I will share the progress of my training on Strava - my goal is to finish within the time limit as I am not a good runner!
