Fright Hike Epping Forest · 1 November 2014

Collaborating with grassroots community groups in Zambia to assist orphans, vulnerable children and youths to achieve their potential - giving them the skills they need to have a better life.

Story

Zambia is one of the poorest and most AIDS ravaged countries in the world. There are an overwhelming 1.2 million orphans in a population of just 14 million; the majority live in very poor, granny or child-headed households.

Education is the key to lifting these families out of poverty. Currently, ZOA-UK is supporting 1500 children through school by funding compulsory uniforms, fees, stationery and feeding programmes.

Most of ZOA-UK’s Trustees have lived in Zambia. They personally cover the low UK overheads so donations can reach as many children as possible.

To raise money to help ZOA-UK support these families on 1st November 2014 we (Caroline Dimelow and Lara Hawkins) are aiming to walk 30km in 6 hours in the dark. We will set off at dusk and walk into the pitch blackness of the night in Epping Forest near London (we were originally doing Fright Hike Queen Elisabeth Forest Park, but this was cancelled).
