Save the Children exists to help every child reach their full potential. In the UK and around the world, we make sure children stay safe, healthy and keep learning, so they can become who they want to be. Your donation will help vulnerable children wherever the need is greatest.

Story

In 2013, GSK and Save the Children formed an innovative and ambitious global partnership, combining the expertise, resources and influence of both organisations to help save the lives of one million children in some of the world’s poorest countries. I’ve been selected as one of 40 individuals to take part in the Trek for Kids Challenge which is supporting this initiative.

I will be spending 10 days in Kenya, five days trekking to the 4,985m summit
of Mount Kenya, then a further 2 days visiting the Bungoma region in Western
Kenya to
see firsthand the current and prospective benefits of the
work that Save the Children is delivering as a result of GSK's support

Originally I had planned to celebrate my recent ‘milestone’ birthday through a special diving trip; however this exciting opportunity represents a fundraising and physical challenge that will mark the occasion in a unique, inspiring and much more worthwhile way!

My trip is fully funded, so all the money I raise will go directly to Save the Children (and will be matched by GSK).

I would like to dedicate my participation in the Trek to my finance colleague and first GSK manager Catherine Hudson who passed away earlier this year.  Catherine loved the outdoors and was a keen trekker and proud GSK employee.

How could you be making a difference?

£3 – Could buy life-saving treatment for eight children with diarrhoea
£5 – Could buy a mosquito net to reduce a child’s chances of being infected
with malaria
£10 – Could buy a baby kit for a health worker to distribute on her rounds
including clothes, towels, nappies and soap
£40 – Can help vaccinate a child against many preventable childhood illnesses
£100 – Trains a health worker to ensure that they can provide life-saving care
for new-born babies and their mothers
£150 - Can pay for a health worker’s salary for a whole month so they can
deliver babies safely, diagnose illnesses and give life-saving treatment to
sick children

Please give what you can - and be a part of helping save the lives of those children that need our help most.
