Bupa Great North Run 2014 · 7 September 2014 ·

Our mission at Terrence Higgins Trust is to end new cases of HIV in the UK by 2030; to empower and support people living with HIV to lead healthy lives; and to amplify the voices of those affected by HIV to eradicate stigma and discrimination.

Story

Why have I decided to fundraise?

2014 is a big year for me. It is the start of a personal journey, where there are so many goals I want to achieve. In fact I am taking on the challenge of 101 challenges in 1001 days (http://101challenges1001days.wordpress.com). It feels like I am going to be doing a lot for my own personal growth over the coming months and years, that it feels appropriate that I should also be giving back too. This is a cause that is close to my heart and I am combining my fundraising with my love of running.

Why did I choose your the Terrence Higgins Trust?

I have worked for the Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) for many years, in many different capacities and I have witnessed the great work that they do first hand. I know a lot of people who live with HIV and the stigma and lack of support available for some is heart wrenching. Sexual health is something that affects us all, but many still treat as a taboo! The support and donations that are made to THT are crucial to allow them to continue to provide services to some of the most isolated, poverty stricken and unsupported adults, children and families out there. To check out some of the great work that they do, take a peek at their website www.tht.org.uk

What am I doing to raise money?

I love running, but I am slow and overweight!!!!! I am taking on the challenge of one of the biggest half marathons in the UK running calendar – the BUPA Great North Run. I aim to complete a whopping 13.1 miles around the streets of Newcastle on Sunday 7th September 2014. And, I am even aiming to try and complete it in under 2.5 hours (that's pretty damn fast for me!!!!). I am training hard to achieve this mammoth feat and I hope you can come along and support me on my journey.

How will the money I raise help the Terrence Higgins Trust?

  • £25 – helps to provide community support for someone with HIV who feels alone and isolated.

  • £50 – helps THT's national helpline to provide support to people in need of help.

  • £100 – helps run a peer support group for mothers with HIV

What does your support mean to me?

Your support is invaluable. Without you, this isn't going to happen! Every penny means something and goes towards helping this great cause. So, any small amount you can spare would mean the world to me and will help me achieve my fundraising target.
