Story
To all my wonderful friends and family,
Did you ever think I was a little bit mad? Well this year I think I may well have proved it. I have inexplicably signed up to cycle 100km through the streets of London in one night. This is Nightrider 2011. What on earth was I thinking? I haven’t cycled since the snow at the end of last year…
You may remember that in 2009 I was part of an expedition travelling to Kumi Hospital to construct an area where patients’ families could wash, cook and clean for the patients. The shelter is now in use by the attendants and I am sure you can imagine the difference this has made to the patient experience and infection control, as well as the experience of the families themselves without whom there would be no clean sheets or food for the patients.
Friends of Kumi Hospital’s project for 2010 – 2012 aims to improve recruitment and retention of quality staff. The area is very rural and staff accommodation is basic so this has been a recurrent problem. The project will provide grants for professional education of staff, primarily nursing staff. There are also children’s education grants to benefit the wider community longer term and with the aim that the children themselves grow up to drive development in the Teso region.
So, you guessed it, I am hoping that you may feel moved to donate to this worthy cause. I have seen for myself how much this project is needed. When I was there, it cost the equivalent of 70p per day to educate a sudent and a beer was only 33p so if you donate as much as you’d pay for one of your fine British Pints you’ll already be making a massive difference!
Further information if you want it, can be found at the links.
Thank you very much in advance.
All the best,
Carolyn
