On October 12th I'll be celebrating my - yikes! - 50th birthday. It will be a strictly "no pressies" affair as I'd much rather make this milestone special by raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre. I'm a Patron of this amazing place which treated my wonderful mother June before she died in 2012.

I think of Mam every day and when I gather my family and friends to celebrate my 50th I will raise a glass and know that she is with us. So it would be a lovely way of honouring her memory to turn my Big Birthday into an even bigger fundraiser.

I also know through my connection with Velindre how lucky I am to reach this milestone as I've seen so many young people claimed by this devastating disease. 

So raising at least a tenner for every one of my 50 years would be the best birthday present I could have.
