Story
Debs:
Starting my sporting life as a x-country runner I every quickly found that I loved being out in all conditions and the rainy and muddier the better. At University I found rugby and being part of the Litchfield ladies RUFC team was such an incredible experience and the camaraderie we had made my playing career something I’ll never ever forget.
Riding the bike, outdoors with friends I did triathlons with and indoors on Zwift with my 3R team, is my passion and how I found out the Doddie Cup event. I’m so excited but equally so nervous of taking on this year, but with the say news that the inspiration for this event, Doddie Weir, has lost his battle with MND, the determination to ride every single mile is stronger than ever. It’s going to tough but with my 3R team mates and our incredible support team by our sides we’ve got this!
Thank you so much for sponsoring us, every penny will help fight this truly awful disease.
Hayley:
Sport has always been a fundamental part of my life and has been critical in supporting me through the most challenging of times.
Starting my early life with with a real mixture of sports including athletics, karate, hockey and cross country. This was where I found found my inner strength and love for gritty (and sometimes painful) events that challenged both my mind and body.
In my 20/30’s, I had successful amateur boxing career, winning multiple national titles and representing England. I utilised both running and cycling to help me relax between events and this is where I really found my love for the great outdoors!
When my boxing career concluded, I knew I needed to find a sport that challenged me in the same way that boxing did but was also flexible enough to fit around my family and career. A friend recommended Zwift and after a few weeks I was completely hooked and had joined the 3R team.
It was through 3R family that I found out about the Doddie Cup. I honestly believe this will be one of the hardest sporting events of my life but it is not a touch on how tough life can be when battling MND.
I am truly grateful for your support and any sponsorship your donations will make a difference not only to the individuals, but to the families fighting this terrible disease.
Carolyn:
Like my teammates, sport has always been a big part of my life. I tried out almost every sport as a kid, finally settling on running/track/cross-country. This lead to lots of marathons and endurance events, and even a few years as a professional triathlete. I have always set challenging goals for myself and I think the Doddie Cup events is one of the toughest yet.
It's also one that's close to my heart. My father in law, David, passed away from MND in June last year after a 2 year battle with this horrendous disease. I always think about him when I’m cycling and feel like quitting. Stopping is a choice for me, but it wasn’t for him. David always wanted to help others and give back, and that’s another reason why he’s my inspiration to do this. MNDA gave us a lot of support in caring for David throughout the course of his disease, so I know that every penny raised will have a direct impact on the lives of MND patients and their families.
