Well, what a fabulous morning we had and what a turn out.  Nearly 1800 people took time out of their weekend to raise money for this great cause.  We know that with the sponsorship we have been promised, combined with the current Just Giving total, that we are have raised well over £2000 which is fantastic! :-)

We are raising funds towards providing a dedicated breast unit that can diagnose breast cancer early.

I and 7 of my close friends and family are running the Frimley Fun Run on 4th May in order to generate funds for a dedicated breast care unit at Frimley Park Hospital. 

Frimley have been a fantastic support to some of our nearest and dearest who are being treated for breast cancer.  

From 2009 - 2012 the number of breast cancers diagnosed at Frimley increased by 25%

1 in 8 women in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
The funds raised by this appeal will enable the breast care unit to go above and beyond the NHS by providing the latest generation of breast imaging technology as well as other specialist diagnostic and surgical equipment. Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is match funding donations to the charity in order to pay for the building and development of the new unit.  Recent studies have shown that this technology can increase breast cancer detection rates by up to 40%.

A more compassionate environment with greater privacy
This appeal will give the 6,000 patients who visit the breast care team each year a dedicated breast unit to visit. A dedicated unit can offer greater personal care in a more compassionate environment with greater privacy.

A greater chance of successful treatment
Patients diagnosed earlier have a greater chance of successful treatment and a better quality of life. 3D mammography is particularly excellent at imaging abnormalities in people with denser breasts, such as younger patients and those on hormone replacement therapy. The Breast Care Team and Frimley Park Hospital Charity want to provide the best possible care for local patients. Until now the team has been based in a general outpatients department at the hospital.

So come on everyone, dig deep and help women get diagnosed early and give them a better chance of survival.
