The Big Welsh Swim 2018 · 14 July 2018

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust (IOM) helps and supports all CF patients on the Island (13), by purchasing medical equipment that the NHS can't supply, that will help them keep fit until a permanent cure can be found - portable nebulisers, portable oxygen concentrators, pre prescription certificates etc.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For anyone that knows me understands that I like a challenge and The Big Welsh Swim which will take place in Llyn Padarn, Snowdonia National Park, North Wales is my challenge this year. Especially as I’ve signed up to do the longest route of 9km which is just under 6 miles in open water.

As well as challenging myself I decided to try and raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust (IOM). Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening genetic condition that causes internal organs, especially the lungs and pancreas, to become clogged with thick sticky mucus, resulting in digestive problems, chronic lung infections and inflammation of the lungs. It is a progressive condition with no cure which tends to get worse over time.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust (IOM) ensures that people with CF receive the best possible care and they support patients by purchasing medical equipment. Many people don’t know what CF is or how it affects people. It is not a well-known disease, especially in the Isle of Man, so it is easily overlooked when it comes to awareness or fundraising.

There are 13 people on the island fighting CF and my friend's daughter is one of them.  She is the bravest little girl I know and I hope to raise money to help them continue their research, campaigning and support, making a difference to her and so many lives on the IOM.

If you would like to support me donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
