Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Last August, not long before Carys and Dylan started school, Dylan became very ill at home. Mummy had to give Dylan CPR while waiting for the emergency services to arrive and for some time it was very scary and we didn’t know what was going to happen. In addition to the NHS ambulance service, the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) sent their critical care team (in a car not the helicopter, due to the weather and landing conditions) to look after Dylan and give him the vital treatment he needed, including placing him on to a ventilator before taking him to paediatric intensive care at Bristol Children’s Hospital. We were told that Dylan had suffered an atypical febrile convulsion, or seizure, lasting between 20 and 30 minutes and also taken fluid into his lungs. After a scary few days involving lots of tests, a lumbar puncture, being discharged, then readmitted, and lots more tests, we were eventually told that the seizure was most likely caused by a viral infection of some kind and that he would be ok. Carys was very happy to get her brother back after a nearly a week in hospital.

Without the intervention of the GWAAC team things could have ended up very differently. The lovely team also visited Dylan in hospital while he was recovering and welcomed us for a tour of their base once Dylan was better, including getting to sit in the helicopter!

We will never be able to thank the amazing people at GWAAC enough for what they did for us, but we all wanted to show our thanks by donating and asking their friends and ours to make a small donation to GWAAC - Carys and Dylan love the idea of helping out this important charity in honour of their birthday. GWAAC is a charity funded entirely by donations so by giving a little something, we and you will help them to keep delivering critical care to those who need it.

Thank you so much for donating!

Tanya, Steve, Carys and Dylan x

P.S. We don't want Carys and Dylan's friends and family to worry that they won't have any presents to open on their birthday - the birthday fairies have that covered!
