Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity, supporting young lives from birth to 18. Our mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across South Yorkshire and Derbyshire who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect or have additional needs.

Story

All funds raised through the Cash for Kids Day appeal will help to support the services currently provided by CLIC Sargent for children and young people, and their families, in the local area. We know that many families are facing financial pressures of their own at the moment, but every donation we receive, no matter how small, can help us to make a real difference locally.

Every day, 10 children and young people in the UK hear the shocking news they have cancer. Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles from home and can last up to three years. Being diagnosed with cancer is a frightening experience and the emotional, practical and financial implications of treatment are intensely challenging for the whole family.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. CLIC Sargent is there from diagnosis onwards and aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.

Children and young people with cancer are usually treated at 18 specialist children’s cancer centres in the UK, which are known as ‘principal treatment centres’ (PTCs). CLIC Sargent funds specialist care professionals working at these PTCs and other hospitals local to the area.

CLIC Sargent’s funded care professionals, including nurses and social workers, provide children and young people with cancer and their families with clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life. Their roles involve working with medical staff and consultants at the hospital to provide the best possible package of care for each member of the family.
