We work with churches, individuals and local organisations in communities worldwide, supporting people of all faiths and none to rise out of poverty. We help people survive disasters, deal with the impact of climate change, find shelter from conflict and have a voice in their communities.

Story

Everyone is equal in the sight of God. Yet we live in a world where poverty still persists.Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive. But together we have the power to transform lives.

During this Creation Time we are aiming to complete the Camino de Santiago de Compostella  VIRTUALLY (The way of St James through Southern France to Spain ) . We hope to walk/run/mobility scoot/cycle the 480+ mile route to highlight the plight of vulnerable people worldwide during this pandemic, and raise money to help Christian Aid support them.

We have now reached the end of our pilgrimage and  have travelled 2066.95 miles.

Cape Finisterre is the final destination for many pilgrims on the Way of St. James. The origin of the pilgrimage to Finisterre is not certain. However, it is believed to date from pre-Christian times and was possibly associated with Finisterre's status as the "edge of the world" and a place to see the last sun of the day. The tradition continued in medieval times, when "hospitals" were established to cater to pilgrims along the route
from Santiago de Compostela to Finisterre. Finisterre also possesses a
reputation for being on "the coast of death", since many vessels have
left the port, never to return.

And on our last day, the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, Southwell Christian Aid Committee would like to say a big thank you to all our pilgrims and to everyone who has supported us in our fund raising for Christian Aid. And finally let’s imagine ourselves on that beach at Finisterre with all the pilgrims who have travelled before us and join together to say the following this prayer for the earth:

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty.

Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

O God of the poor, help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes.

Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.

Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.

Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day. Amen

(Pope Francis, Laudato Si)
