The Royal British Legion is celebrating its 100th year of supporting the armed forces community and to support I wanted to do a little more than my usual poppy donation. I will be taking part in the Castaway Survival Challenge, spending a week on an unknown remote island this September.

The Royal British Legion are the country's largest Armed Forces Charity, providing life long support to serving and ex-serving personel and their families. https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/ has loads of detail on the many ways they can support from providing expert advice and guidance, to recovery and rehabilitation, through to transitioning to civilian life.

Over 90,000 people turn to The Royal British Legion for help every year. Many face life changing or life limiting situations and struggle with things we may take for granted. Me pushing myself a bit and having some fun being a castaway for a few days is the least I can do.

£5 could pay for a grab rail for a vulnerable veteran to live independently and safely in their own home.

£15 could pay for a travel card to enable a veteran to attend a job interview.

£20 could pay for a memory box of photos for a person living with dementia helping them to recall events and friends from the past.

£50 could provide two nights emergency accommodation in a hotel or bed-and-breakfast.

Oh and as a little sweetener for those that want a laugh, I'll be shaving my beard for the first time in about 6 years if I hit £600.
