I am currently taking a gap year before heading off to Liverpool Uni to study chemistry. Whilst volunteering in Africa for three months over the summer, I have decided to challenge myself even further and climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise some much needed money for a charity close to my heart; Cancer Research UK.

Today around 290,000 people are newly diagnosed with cancer each year. However, the amazing work funded by Cancer Research UK has helped save millions of lives in the UK and across the world. Cancer Research UK funds the research of over 4,500 scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK, and runs specialised institutes dedicated to cancer research. Just £1,050 could fund around four microarrays - powerful pieces of gene technology that allow scientists to compare how active different genes are in cancer cells and healthy cells.
