Great North Run 2022 · 11 September 2022 ·

Behçet's (pronounced Bet-jets) is a rare, complex and life-long condition caused by disturbances in the body's immune system. Behçet's can affect people of any age, but it most common in those aged 20-40. The society runs a helpline, funds research, and offers financial support for patients in need.

Story

Chris has ran a number of marathons and half marathons including the great north run which he has completed 10 times.

During lock down, we got into the habit of going out in my wheelchair for some fresh air, going further each time. Chris was talking about his entry into the great north run again this year which sparked a discussion about how I’d love to be able to do something like that. This then got Chris thinking about how he could make this possible. He did some research into different types of wheelchair tyres and suggested that we take part in the great north run together with him pushing me around the course!

Initially I thought this was crazy (for him) but it gave me such a buzz that this would even be a possibility! So we applied for a wheelchair place as a duo and we where successful!

So, we will be taking part in the great north run this September! We will be raising money and flying the flag for Behçet’s UK and will be sharing our journey on my Instagram @risingfromtheillness
