Event: Brighton Marathon 2018, on 15 April 2018
On Sunday 15th April 2018, a team of our amazing fundraisers will be taking on The Brighton Marathon to support our work rescuing animals from suffering around the world

Story

I've never run a marathon - nothing close - so this is a huge challenge for me! Your support will keep me going over this final month of training and on the actual day! You may ask why I've taken on this crazy challenge...

After working with orangutans in Borneo 14 years ago these amazing creatures and their beautiful habitat holds a special place in my heart. It breaks my heart to think that these wonderful animals and their homes could be gone before my children get to see them in the wild.

The plight of the orangutan in Indonesia has reached a critical stage, with the survival of the species under serious threat. Animals are suffering and dying because of the systematic destruction of the rainforest, primarily for palm oil production, particularly in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo.

International Animal Rescue’s team is working in West Kalimantan to rescue and care for baby orangutans that have been taken from their mothers to be illegally sold as pets and adults that have spent their entire lives chained up or imprisoned in tiny cages. Their human-orangutan conflict (HOC) team also comes to the aid of orangutans left stranded when their forest home is destroyed and translocates these vulnerable animals to safe areas of protected forest. Any animals that can no longer survive in the wild will be given a permanent home at the centre. They recently raised funds to buy an additional 64 acres next to their centre to stop it being turned into yet another palm oil plantation.

International Animal Rescue are a hands on frontline charity that saves animals from suffering around the world. Their work also includes vaccinating stray dogs and cats in developing countries and saving dancing bears in India. One of their most recent campaigns is the Great Bear Rescue - saving bears from horrendous suffering in Armenia. www.greatbearrescue.org?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=Great_Bear_Rescue&utm_content=main_video

As human populations expand, wildlife comes under increasing threat but all is not lost. Let's work together to make it a better future for our children.
