Story
I am lucky enough to be running the London marathon 2027 on behalf of Alzheimer’s Research UK! The main reason I started running was because of all the races my grandad had done including running this iconic marathon 6 times! It has always been a dream of mine to run the London Marathon just like my grandad had and to compare medals. Unfortunately around 3 years ago my grandad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia and it was so hard to see his gradual decline over time. In the early stages of the disease he couldn’t remember a lot of things but one thing he always kept repeating was his London Marathon PB time - 3hours 11 mins and 49 secs. His illness had such an impact not only on himself but also our entire family. We often spoke about how unfair this disease is, affecting anyone no matter their background but also how we wish there was a cure. We all know someone who has been affected my Alzheimer’s dementia and Alzheimer’s Research UK plays a massive part in finding a cure for this incredibly cruel disease. Sadly I will now be running this marathon in my Grandads memory and whilst I won’t be getting round anywhere near as fast as him I’m determined to finish this renowned marathon and raise awareness and funds for this incredible charity.
