Catherine's sailing adventure raising money for UNICEF

Clipper 2017-18 Race · 27 August 2017 to 31 July 2018 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am going to sail across the Atlantic with the Clipper Race, as a complete beginner. The Clipper Race is a race around the world between 12 identical 70 foot boats, in 8 legs. The skipper is the only professional on board. It will take 11 months to complete and I will do the 1st leg which is about 36 days and nights non-stop at sea.
To prepare for this adventure, we are put through our paces with 4 weeks of intensive RYA training.
The fleet is going to leave the UK from Liverpool on 20th August 2017 heading to Punta des Este in Uruguay
. We can expect a bumpy Irish sea, the dreaded Bay of Biscay, some champagne sailing would be nice (no drinking involved) and the notorious Doldrums with its intense heat, no wind and sudden storms….
There will be lots of very difficult and testing times. I am scared (slight understatement), but I chose to do it.
At the same time, children around the world are experiencing even more dangerous challenges. They’re facing disease, hunger and the chaos of war and disaster. They haven’t chosen any of it, they are just trying to survive.
I feel honoured to be part of this adventure to raise money for UNICEF (the official charity of the race) which saves children around the world.
Thank you for your generosity,
Catherine
