Story
I am walking the 21 mile Edinburgh Kilt walk this September in memory of my beloved son Zac who lost his life to suicide in February this year at the age of 14.
It has been shocking to learn since Zac’s death of the numbers of children that take their own lives each year. Each family, friends and community left devastated by their loss. There are many strands in Suicide prevention but I believe encouraging emotional literacy and providing mental health support from the beginning of school is part of this. Governments don’t currently put in enough money and charities such as Place2Be need more support.
I have therefore chosen to continue to support Place2Be and build on funds previously raised in Zac’s name.
Place2Be provides safe spaces with dedicated practitioners for children in primary and secondary schools, where they can talk about their concerns, creating an environment where talking about feelings is encouraged. Support is provided early using an effective therapeutic approach. The charity therefore provides crucial mental health support to young people and their families within the school setting. At a time when increasing numbers of children are experiencing difficulties with their emotional and mental health, appropriate support in a timely fashion and familiar setting, is so important. Place2Be also provide training for teachers, building resilience and raising awareness of mental health across the whole school community. With your support, the charity can help more schools, young people and families.
