I have recently become a trustee of the Royal County of Berkshire Churches Trust which was set up in 1984 with the objective of raising funds to help with the (huge) cost of repairs to churches in Berkshire. Over the years it has contributed over £500,000 in grants to maintain these historic buildings and help them remain open and usable. Ride+Stride is its major fund-raising event with participants sponsored to walk, run or cycle to as many churches as they can. Half of whatever is raised goes to the Trust and half to the church of the participant's choice. I am getting on my bike (not something that happens very often) on September 9th because the more we raise on that day the more we will be able to give away.
