Story

Mum was diagnosed with Stage IV Stomach Cancer in November 2016 and battled the disease with tremendous courage, strength and dignity for 20 months. I will never forget her positivity, drive and admirable coping approach; they were completely incredible!

During Mum's first 12 months, each time we visited her oncologist, the consultant was amazed by Mum's hardiness and general vigour. It was such a welcoming and encouraging reaction, one which always made Mum and I feel a huge sense of relief and gratitude.

Mum's rehabilitative stay within the St Joseph's Palliative Care Ward of St Margaret of Scotland Hospice took place between May and July 2018. From the moment we both entered the hospice, we knew Mum would be expertly cared for. Each member of staff showed tremendous warmth and spirit towards each patient and we were both especially grateful for this. The heatwave which took place during these months gave Mum and her visitors the opportunity to enjoy the glorious garden at the hospice, an experience that Mum enjoyed tremendously. Thank you to all staff members who were involved in Mum's care, From the bottom of my heart, I am eternally grateful for your professionalism, compassion and support.

Mum's brave outlook, over those 20 months has made me determined to honour her spirited stance by partaking in 20 running events in commemoration of Mum's brave battle.

From May 2019 until December 2020, I will be running over 400 miles, within 7 countries, covering a distance equivalent to Glasgow Central Station to London Heathrow Airport; John O' Groats to Durham and York to Penzance !

I am super excited to share my challenges with you and make you feel a part of my adventure every step of the way. We will all fondly remember dear Mum for her intelligence, loving and thoughtful nature and joie de vivre.

Mum you will be with me every step of the 400 miles.

Love you always X
