Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Next weekend I will be starting my biggest challenge and longest bike ride ever by cycling the entire length of mainland Britain. The route goes through 3 countries starting on the Cornish coast, heading past the stunning wilds of Dartmoor, across the River Severn before riding into Wales. Heading further north, I will be skimming the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria before crossing the border into Scotland. From there I will be heading to Perth, then Edinburgh through the Cairngorms on to Inverness and then to the north coast finishing at John O'Groats 14 days later having pedalled over 1000 miles!
I set myself this challenge for a number of reasons;- to do something I’ve never done before; to see if I enjoy cycle touring and riding long distances; to see the whole of the country, specifically parts I’ve never been to; to enjoy a shared experience with others who are taking part in the ride organised by Saddle Skedaddle, including Clare, a good family friend; and to give something back by supporting a local charity which encourages participation in sport.
The enjoyment of sport has been a key part of my life and my family’s. I have been fortunate to have participated in a number of different sports and know the benefit it has on well-being and the opportunity it affords us to socialise and have fun. Sport is life-enriching and a great way to break down barriers. Sadly not everyone has access to sport and I am a strong advocate to see this change.
'Power2Inspire desires a society where everyone can enjoy inclusive sport together, regardless of age, gender, faith, ethnicity or disability. For more about the charity and its activities please visit www.power2inspire.org.uk where you can read about their inclusive sports days, their festivals of fun and how ‘No one is left on the bench!’
Throughout my journey I will be posting updates via Strava so you can see how I’m getting on and whether I do enjoy long cycle rides😊
Thank you again for your support and encouragement, especially the St Ives CC, Slugs Group and others who have joined me on training rides over the last 9 months.
