About Us
In 2015 my husband Shaun was diagnosed with Squamous Cell cancer of the tonsil. Luckily that cancer spread causing a visible lump otherwise we would never have known due to him having no symptoms.
We were very fortunate that we caught the cancer in time, and his treatment was a success. Shaun underwent a full neck dissection followed by 6 weeks of radiotherapy. We are now suffering the side affects of the radiotherapy with Shaun having to have multiple teeth removed, but that is a very small price to pay in exchange for his overall health.
The quick and wonderful work of our NHS saved my husbands life and prompted me to donate a kidney as a way of thanks.
We are both now fully healed and healthy.
About Rushfest
When Steve Brown started RUSHfest Scotland in 2014 one of his closest friends - Angie Townsend - was fighting terminal cancer. Steve and Angie were in a band together in the 90s www.seeingredrocks.com so music was the main foundation for their friendship and Rush was a huge influence. Steve always asked Angie to choose the charity for RFS and over the 4 events to date £28,495.41 has been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and Teenage Cancer Trust (we tend to stick with the same charity for two years).
Angie tragically passed away in January 2016.
This year’s charity is the wonderful St. Columba’s Hospice in Edinburgh where Angie spent her final days. We purposefully went for a relatively unknown charity although this is by no means a small concern. The Hospice relies on £7million a year in donations and every penny you donate online here will be going to them.
On behalf of Steve, Angie’s family and the Hospice - thank you!”
St. Columba’s Hospice is a Registered Charity, number SC003634, and please add gift aid if you’re a UK tax payer.
