Story
Thanks very much for visiting my page.
I am taking part in the Great Scottish Run to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK, in memory of my mum who passed away on the 15 May 2018.
Our lives were turned upside down, when mum was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in early February last year. She had gone through a major operation to remove her bowel, but unfortunately, the cancer had spread to other organs.
She was discharged from hospital in early March and made a good recovery. She was in good health for 10-12 weeks, during which she celebrated her 84th birthday on the 1 April. Not long after, the cancer took hold and mum was admitted to hospital on the 8 May, she passed away a week later.
They say that bowel cancer is the silent killer and isn't it just. My mum showed no symptoms until early December 2017/January 2018. They said that she maybe had cancer for years, how many, is unclear.
I hadn't run in over 20 years, when I took up the Couch to 5k in July last year. Initially, giving me some focus and to help with the overwhelming grief. I had forgotten how painful it can be. It has helped me enormously.
After I completed the challenge, I decided to keep on running and increase my distance, gradually working my way up to 10k.
This is the first time I have ever entered an organised event.
I would really appreciate your support in donating to a very worthy charity.
Many thanks
Cathie xx
