Cathy and Karolynne have been friends for over 20 years after working together at Gateshead Libraries and Arts in the 90s. We've both lost people we love to cancer and we're hoping to raise £500 to make sure that the invaluable work of Macmillan nurses continues.
In January Cathy's lovely mother-in-law died after a long battle with cancer. Margot was beautiful and glamorous and always loved to wear sparkle. She was generous and kind loved to spend time with her family and friends. In the last few weeks of her life Margot wanted to stay at home with her husband Hughie, and Macmillan nurses allowed that to happen, we're really grateful for the support they gave our family.
In February Cathy also lost one of her best friends to cancer. Jude was the last person you'd imagine would get cancer, she competed in Triathlons and was glowing with health. Her diagnosis in March 2020 was a huge shock and despite initially responding well to treatment she died less than a year later. Jude had lots of friends and a beautiful family, we are all still reeling from the shock of it all and miss her so much. She was the loveliest friend, it would have been her 50th birthday this year.
Karolynne’s Aunt Lorraine was a beautiful, brave and positive person despite being in pain from Myeloma, a form of blood cancer for many years. The support Lorraine and my Uncle David got from Macmillan, made such a difference to their lives. One nurse in particular called Rachel, provided valuable advice, support, counselling , respite and care, making day to day life more bearable. Like many Macmillan nurses, Rachel balanced health care with kindness and got to know Lorraine as an individual. Macmillan helped Lorraine and David throughout her illness and this is my way of thanking them for that.
Thank you in advance for your contribution, this is a cause that means so much to us.
