I written the below story before my Dad passed away on 21st July this year. I couldn’t bring myself to change it. He set my off on this challenge and I’m going to finish it in his memory.

In September, I’ll be tackling the Great North Run for the second time - all in aid of Kidney Research UK.

Kidney Research UK provide money for life-saving research into kidney diseases, to help those that suffer lead better lives and maybe one day prevent such horrible diseases altogether. This is all too important to me, as this is something that my Dad has suffered with since I was young. If it wasn’t for the new research and amazing doctors and nurses that have looked after my Dad over the years, he probably wouldn’t be here today.

Every day is a new challenge for us. For over 12 years, there isn’t a week that goes by without hospital appointments and treatments & these diseases really can throw everything at you. Numerous hospital stays throughout the year when the disease is at its worst is inevitable. But it doesn’t have to be like this for others. Research can prevent these diseases and stop others suffering.

Anyone that knows me knows exercise isn’t my favourite pastime. More like eating chocolate & sitting in the cinema. But this summer, I’ll be pounding the pavements again to get ready for this most amazing run. I know it won’t be easy (I have barely run since I did this last time!). So please join me on this crazy little journey I’m sending myself on.
