Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are fundraising for MDUK, an amazing charity that offer research into muscle wasting diseases, as well as providing essential support for families. Cath’s extended family have been hugely affected by this disease, and her brother-in-law, Doug, still lives with it today. MDUK have helped him source disability equipment, provided advice on carers & have supported him through his struggles with independent living.

Lesser known charities such as MDUK are really struggling right now in the wake of Covid and the financial crisis. Without fundraising, these charities would cease to exist and 1000s of people would be left without any support. Research would stop. This is why we are taking on the Pedal Paddle Peak challenge in July 2023.

Pedal – starting in Penrith, our team will take on a 30-mile cycle which will be split into two stages of about 15 miles during the day. The route will take us on a scenic tour around Ullswater Lake, surrounded by The Lake District peaks. The course is a mixed bag, with some small hills and one large climb after we finish the paddle.

Paddle – a 2-mile canoe paddle on the stunning Ullswater Lake in two connected canoe boats creating a stable raft to keep the team together. When we’re finished, we’ll all get back on our bikes for a steep pedal up to the base of the Mountain Peak Challenge.

Peak – leaving our bikes behind,  we then get ready to climb the second highest peak in England, the magnificent Helvellyn Mountain. For the tough climb to the top we’ll go via the ‘white side’ and ‘lower man’ and return the same route. Once complete, it’s back on our bikes for the final 15-mile pedal to finish in Penrith.
