Story

On 20th of September I depart for 3 weeks to Nepal for an epic trip to climb Mera Peak in the Himalayas. This we be a challenging trip for me not only because I have a pace maker and defibrillator fitted but also because I have never done any high altitude Trekking before! 😱😱 what could possibly go wrong  😆l

I am a very keen hiker and have hiked most Mountain ranges in the UK and Ireland and also a little in Italy and America, so for me this was a natural progression.

Mera Peak is a mountain in the Himalayas in the same range as Mount Everest. It is 6,476m high it  is 1100m higher than Everest Base camp.. and a little over 2000m lower than the summit of Everest ...😱 just to put it into perspective.  It is classified as the highest trekking peak in Nepal.

I have chosen Assisi as my charity of choice for this trip. This is a local charity that do some amazing work   .

Founded in 1997, Assisi Animal Sanctuary is Northern Ireland’s largest independent animal welfare charity, providing shelter for up to 200 companion animals including dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits and guinea pigs.  Last year Assisi rescued over 2,500 animals.

Assisi operates a ‘No Kill Policy’ and have a strict re-homing criteria to ensure our rescue animals find the best possible home.  Assisi is committed to providing an excellent quality of life for our animals no matter what their age or state of health.

Animal Welfare is at the core of everything they do at Assisi. We strive to reduce and ultimately stop the current destruction of companion animals in Northern Ireland.
