Wellingborough Multi-Terrain 2013 Round 1 · 20 January 2013

Support for Royal Marines and families in times of need and the good times too ! We appreciate the pressures of deployment, operational exercise and the stress this brings to the parents, wives and children when loved ones are away. We also work in partnership with the RMCTF on larger projects.

Story

I took up running two years ago and since then have taken part in numerous races to raise money and also to collect shiny medals and it seems knee injuries! I never really had a certain charity that I would raise money for and would just collect sponsorship for the charity supported by what ever event I was taking part it.

However on 24th October 2012 my Cousin Corporal David O'Connor was killed whilst on patrol in in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province. David is a much loved member of the massive O'Connor family tree and is very much missed by all.

Go Commando has become my chosen charity after seeing the amazing work and support that they do for Royal Marines and their families.

The first event of the year is to be held on 20th January 2012 and is to take place at Irchester Country Park. This is the first time I have taken part in this event and I have managed to drag my friend Kirsty Radley into running it with me.

We did plan to take part in the 10km run however having just come back from Florida and also eaten our way through Christmas we decided to start back with a gentle 5km run. Now I know that 5km isn't far to run but having found out that the course for the past few years has been described as : muddy, soggy, ice/snow and (possibly my favourite quote, I haven't told Kirsty this one yet) "There have been times when it was like being on the travelator on Gladiators", I don't feel that its going to be the nice gentle run we wanted.

Please feel free to come and watch us take part, if you are going to come and watch please please please bring us some beer to have afterwards!

I hope that you will be able to help me support this charity by donating money via Justgiving, please donate and help them continue providing the support and care to the Royal Marines.

Thank you
