Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A fund has been set up called XMAS (X My ASs) Cancer Fund which aims to raise as much money as we can for CLIC Sargent.
Our team of 30 fundraisers are doing a Firewalk (yes walking through burning coals!) and I believe arrows are involved somewhere too, but we are doing something special for such a fantastic charity which is very close to our hearts. CLIC Sargent provide invaluable support to families who are hit with a cancer or leukaemia diagnosis. Every day 12 families face the most awful news that their child has cancer.
On 3rd Dec we received the heartbreaking diagnosis that our gorgeous Erin has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). On that same night we were taken straight to Sick Kids in Edinburgh by ambulance where we spent the next 5 weeks, we didn't even get to go home. Erin received chemotherapy and steroid treatment as part of her fight against ALL. She had to have her central line removed following an infection, after only one week. She also had a blood clot which still requires twice daily injections. It's been a tough journey and one we've had to deal with as a family. Erin's fight is a long one, with 2 years of treatment. Our 4 year old daughter, Neave, has dealt with things no four year old should.
Thanks to CLIC Sargent we had accommodation at Ciaran's House. A fantastic home from home, 10 minutes from Sick Kids, where we could stay together and try to come to terms with how our lives had changed. Ciaran's house enabled us to have Christmas as a family in Edinburgh, a different Christmas but one where we were at least together. Through CLIC Sargent Neave was given a barbie called Ella who had no hair. It was a very gentle way of explaining to Neave that one of the side effects for Erin would be loss of her hair. Little girls love their hair and it was the one thing we dreaded telling Neave.
CLIC social workers help us apply for grants which go some way to helping with the costs of travel, hospital parking, food etc. They support you in so many ways throughout your child's treatment. The network of support is amazing and that is why we have to do our bit for CLIC Sargent. Please, please give what you can and thank you for reading Erin's story ❤️
