Breast Cancer Now's wear it pink day is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK and is taking place on 23 October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Story

My dear mum Valerie was diagnosed with grade 2 invasive ductal breast cancer almost 3 years ago, aged 91. I felt so sad for her, as she had been diagnosed and treated for a different cancer during her 80's.

Having previously cared for her myself for several years, she very sadly no longer lives with me due to her worsening health conditions & care needs. Since last October, she has been living in a lovely local care home, called 'The Laurels' in Draycott , Somerset. However, due to Covid19 restrictions, I have not been able to visit her much or make physical contact with her since March, which is utterly heartbreaking for us both, especially at this stage in her life. I know millions of other people in the UK and around the world, also currently find themselves in this devastating situation.

It is her 94th birthday on 6/11/20 and other than telephoning her daily since the lockdown in March, I feel powerless to do anything positive to help. So.......in honour of her living with her cancer so bravely through these very strange times, I would love to raise some funds for this fantastic charity!

WEAR IT PINK day is officially on Friday 23rd October, but I will be fundraising throughout this week. If you feel able to give a small donation to this charity, I would be truly grateful. I know my mum would be too!

There will be cakes for sale after school every day this week, at my house in Axbridge. (I have a current food hygiene qualification and my kitchen has been inspected & is monitored by the local council environmental health team.)

I also have some handy pocket-sized 75ml pink hand sanitising gels available for £2.50 each. The gels are made by Covex in the UK and they carry the Breast Cancer Now logo. They contain 70% alcohol and aloe vera too, to be kind to your hands!

The sales of cakes and gels are for those of you able to collect from me in person. The proceeds from these sales will go straight to the charity.

I'd just like to mention, that this fundraising is also in honour of all the gorgeous inspirational ladies in my life, who have lived with breast cancer or are still doing so with such infectious positivity! You know who you are! :) Also.... a big shout out to every single person I know their families & friends who are currently living or have lived with any type of cancer.... I'm thinking of you too! Once again ...you know who you are! You are all so awesomely brave! :)

Take care everyone,

Much love,

Trina xxx
