Story

28.04.2019 <—— What’s so special about this date? Well I’ll tell you. *takes a deep breath* I’MGOINGTORUNTHELONDONMARATHONFORHEARINGDOGSFORDEAFPEOPLE....phew! There you go people. There you have it. No? Okay I’ll try again...*takes a deep breath* I’m going to run the London Marathon for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. That wasn’t too bad ha! Although doing it for real....that’s an entirely different story! But that’s okay, I’ll do lots of jumping up and down, lifting up lots of cakes to eat, and walking to the kitchen to make lots of cups of tea! Oh and I’ll also add in two or three running sessions a week, a boot camp session here and there, lots of walking with Evie, eating lots of pasta for carbs, and much more.

On a more personal note, Evie, who is my hearing dog, has made a huge difference to my life. For example, Evie loves to make sure I’m up in the mornings, by constantly jumping on my bed, until I switch the alarm clock off.
Whenever there’s someone at the door or the cooking timer goes off, Evie will run to alert me.
Safety is of paramount to me, which is why Hearing Dogs for Deaf People have trained Evie to alert me whenever the smoke alarm is going off, either at home or work.
Evie wears her Hearing Dog jacket to make people aware that I am profoundly deaf, at work, restaurants, cafes, shopping centres, etc.

I can’t imagine life without Evie now, there is never a quiet moment with her around. Not only does she love to work, but when she’s not working, she loves to come running with me, getting lots of cuddles, learning new tricks, and really laps up all the attention she gets from friends, family, work colleagues, strangers....even postmen! Just like me, she doesn’t like to get out of bed on a cold early morning, and gets really grumpy if she doesn’t get her dinner on time....!
Yeah....I can’t imagine life without her :-)

On a more serious note, I would be so grateful if you could make any donation, which will make a great difference to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

If you can, please go along to one of their open days where you will learn how they train Hearing Dogs, and watch their demonstration shows. You will also get to meet some of the lovely people who work at Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, you will be amazed by how passionate they are about the charity, and how much they really want to help.

Thank you x
