Maggie's is Kaitlin's chosen charity.
Six months ago, Kaitlin was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive brain tumour. She had multiple surgeries, followed by intensive radiotherapy and her first cycle of chemotherapy. Following the spread of the cancer and despite the best efforts of the most senior medical teams across five different hospitals, Kaitlin became extremely unwell and very weak, and lost her courageous fight on 8th October 2019, passing away at the age of 28.
Prior to her illness, Kaitlin was healthy, sporty and lived life to the full. She had a huge network of friends and was kind, funny and loving. She did everything to make sure that her family and friends were happy, before taking her own happiness into consideration.
Whilst Kaitlin was having treatment at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre on the Wirral, Maggie's was an invaluable source of support to her. When she was well enough, Kaitlin loved her visits to Maggie's, where she took part in classes, received advice, both practical and emotional, and could always find a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. Most of all though, Kaitlin loved going to Maggie's for a brew and a biscuit, to chat with family and friends away from the sterile hospital environment. Maggie's didn't just provide support to Kaitlin however, they were also there to advise and help her family and friends to cope with the effects of cancer.
On Kaitlin's behalf, we would love to raise as much money as possible for this incredible charity who run entirely on donations, and any amount of money will go a long way to providing the much needed funds to continue their fantastic work.
In Kaitlin's words, everyone should have access to a Maggie's.
