Running for Owain!

Hampton Court Half Marathon 2020 · 23 February 2020 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some you know my nephew, Owain, was diagnosed with cancer (specifically Leukaemia) in June last year at 10 years old after being unwell for a couple of weeks. To say it was a shock to my brother and sister-in-law and the rest of us is putting it mildly as you can probably imagine. The charity I'm running in aid of (PACT) is a relatively small one but nevertheless has a huge impact on people's lives by offering practical help and support. In the first couple of weeks/months following Owain's diagnosis, Owain was in hospital pretty much nonstop. Although the hospital could allow his mum, Lisa, to stay with Owain 24/7 there was no room for his dad to stay and understandably Meirion didn't want to leave his son and wife's side at such a shocking time, especially as the Children's Hospital is 1.5 hours drive from their house each way. Via the hospital PACT made contact with my brother and gave him a bed to stay in the house they have adjacent to the hospital. They also took the time to come on to the ward and bring in packed lunches for parents as they know they may not be leaving their child's bedside all day for several days at a time. This practical help eased the burden a little, both emotionally and financially. PACT even allowed grandparents who had travelled a couple of hundred miles to stay in their accommodation for only £10 per week.
PACT do so much more and the above is just one way in which they've helped our family alone.
While Owain is only a little way in to his cancer journey, I'd really like to try and do something positive and give back to one of the amazing charities that are supporting him.
Until a couple of months ago, the most I'd ever run in one stretch was about 5 miles and always running alone. So, the thought of running a 'proper' race with thousands of people is terrifying for me, let alone the fact that it's a half marathon. I've got a couple of niggles so all in all you can be rest assured this is a challenge for me! However, I'm really motivated for such a great cause and have been getting up at 7.30am Sunday mornings to train. It would spur me on even more if you could possibly take a minute to sponsor me for the Hampton Court Half on 23rd Feb - thank you so much. It starts and finishes at the end of my road so I have no excuses to miss it! Cx
