Story

Our story...

Thank you for visiting our team page. Your donation will make a HUGE difference to young people living with cystic fibrosis (CF).

We are a team of friends and family (see below) of an inspirational and simply amazing man, Dan Mason, who died on December 28th 2011, aged 27.

The challenge we've set ourselves in Dan's memory is to tackle the three national peaks (Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales) on 4th-5th August 2012 in 24 hours. We are raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Holiday Fund and here's why...

...Dan lived with the chronic, life threatening illness CF. Although daily treatment regimes, hospital stays and many medications were necessary, Dan never let that get in the way of living, and living well. He took every opportunity life offered.

In June 2010, he was honoured to be asked to be co-best man at Will and Amy-Jo’s wedding in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He saved hard for the trip but was stung by the expense of travel insurance which cost more than two return flights to the USA combined.

Many insurance companies would not cover at all because of Dan’s medical history. Those that offered cover charged a very high premium. Dan applied to the CF Holiday Fund to see if they could help and was eternally grateful for the support the charity gave in funding his travel insurance. It was a trip of a lifetime.

The CF Holiday Fund focuses on supporting the quality of life of young people living with CF. Those who have CF have more to do than most on a daily basis. They can never take a break from daily treatments but having a change of scene, going somewhere different and experiencing new adventures can do the world of good for mind and body.

When Dan went to the USA, he came across this quote in the Tetons:

‘Some day I hope to learn more about the sun and stars, at that time we shall all meet up there, but for the present I prefer to have the boundaries shown by our familiar rivers and mountains’ (Washakie, 1876)

Hopefully Dan’s now learning more about the sun and stars and we’ve decided to tackle the mountains in the meantime. Our team of 36 hikers, 3 drivers and a support team includes:
