VSO 3 Peaks Challenge 2009 · 1 August 2009 ·

VSO is an international development organisation that brings people together to share skills, build capabilities, and change lives to make the world a fairer place for all. Everyday, VSO volunteers are working to empower people living in some of the world’s most marginalised communities.

Story

Welcome everyone to our fundraising webpage!

UPDATE: Well we did it! 23 hours and 43 minutes... it was tough and we're all sore now but thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Don't worry though if you haven't ... you can still donate on the site over the next few months and help us reach our target!

On the first weekend in August Matt, James, Owen, Sam and Doug will be climbing Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon - the tallest mountains that England, Scotland and Wales have to offer. 23 miles of climbing, 400 miles of driving, and all in 24 hours! In doing this, we will raise a minimum of £5,000 for VSO - an international development charity that works through volunteers. In turn we will be helping support work ongoing in over 30 of the world’s poorest countries by over 1,500 volunteers on projects such as education, HIV and AIDS, disability, and health and social well-being. You can find out more about the work VSO does at http://www.vso.org.uk/about/.

It’s going to be a grueling challenge, rumor has it that there is at least a 40% chance of being eaten by mountain goats during the expedition, let alone having to survive without any sleep, regular food, water or toilets!

All the money you donate is going to a great cause, so please help us fine young gents hit our target by giving generously.

We will beat this challenge!

Great thanks to you all!

Matt, James, Owen, Sam, Doug

Events

* Bar Night - with Band and DJ (30/05/09)

   Another good night, we hope everyone who turned up enjoyed it. Andrew from Team UF did a good job circulating the tables with a pint glass full of notes. Thanks everyone!

* Pub Quiz & Drinks (21/05/09)

   Thanks to all that attended - the night contributed £125 with other donations still coming in. Well done to James Forrester (again) of CGM and Paul Currie of UF whose team took the bottle of bubbly!

* Pro Evo Tournament & Drinks (23/04/09)

    Thanks to all that attended - the night made us a healthy £150 for each team, and everyone seemed to have a good time. Our very own James Forrester was crowned Pro Evo King - just for the night

Messages From the Team

Matt – I must admit ... I'd been to the pub when I first agreed to this with the other boys. But that has all gone (sort of) out of the window now in preparation for this mammoth challenge. I'm really looking forward to what should be a great weekend which at the same time helps us support a very worthwhile charity. Please give what you can in support of us, and more importantly the work VSO is doing. Thanks!

James – Despite thinking that the 3 Peaks sounds much too hardcore for me, I decided to give this a go, as it’s a good a chance to get fit and challenge myself physically without running 26 miles! Its also for a very worthwhile cause, so any donations (no matter how small) will be very much appreciated and help us reach our target.

Owen – Here are 3 good reasons to give us your hard earned cash

1)     The VSO is unique charity, giving communities access to the kind of skills and resources they would otherwise never get

2)     We’re not hardcore – the pure schadenfreude of witnessing our painful attempts to get fit is worth the donation alone

3)      If we don’t hit our target in time I will be forced to sell Matt to a bearded hill walker on Ben Nevis

Sam – When I heard about the 3 Peaks, I thought "Yeah Slick, lets do it!" So here I am, asking for your help to get us lot up, and down the three biggest mountains in the UK. It's for a very worthwhile cause, as I guess you'll see from the other comments here. It should also be one hell of a weekend with the boys, so help us, help VSO, help the thousands and thousands of people out there they support. Cheers!

Doug - Doug’s natural environment is the internet, so climbing mountains is a big deal for him. Please help get Doug into “the nature” and in the process support the good work that VSO is doing connecting skilled people with places where people’s lives will be significantly improved by them.
