Yorkshire Warrior · 30 April 2017
Hi everyone!
This April my friends from school and I are going to challenge ourselves and do the Yorkshire Warrior. Many of you will know that I am indeed from Yorkshire but that my physique is far from that of a warrior, so this will be quite a challenge. Luckily my friends are in better shape and will bully me into fitness in the next few weeks!
The reason that I have chosen to undergo this publicly-acceptable form of torture is because in April 2016 the wonderful human being that is my boyfriend, and our very close friend, was diagnosed with leukaemia. This was such a shock to us, as it really hit home that Cancer just does as it pleases, and can affect anyone at all. Conor was perfectly healthy, and suddenly just... wasn't. After his initial diagnosis Conor was moved to Leeds - specifically to St James hospital in the Bexley wing, and even more specifically to ward J94. Ward J94 is funded by the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity which I have previously raised money for. We would love to raise even more money on the anniversary of Conor's diagnosis, so that the patients there that Conor got to know, and the amazing staff on the ward can really reap the benefits.
The TCT wards are purpose built for young people with Cancer aged between 16-24, which is important because it means that the ward works around the patients and the families and not the other way around. Examples of this were the excellent visiting hours, and the amenities available for patients stuck in there, but mostly the amount of support offered to myself, Conor's family and to his friends was incredible.
Luckily, Conor is making an excellent recovery, and shouldn't ever have to spend anymore time in J94. Your donations won't help him directly, but it will help the people who managed to keep him (and us) sane during his time there, and the patients who are still being cared for there.
From myself, from all the girls that are doing this with me, and from Conor, thank you in advance.
