Challenge12 - Diamond Dash Summer Fete · 5 July 2015

The Diamond Centre is a registered charity providing unique facilities to benefit disabled children and adults by having regular contact with horses. It is widely recognised that riding helps disabled people both physically and mentally - and remarkable improvements achieved by so many of those attending The Diamond Centre are proof of this.

Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders

'The Diamond Riding Centre is a horse riding stables specifically tailored to help disabled people.  Diamond is purely a charity and relies on donataions and goodwill of the public.  Disabled people are given the chance of freedom, where they can rise above their disablity and develop skills.  It provides a chance to build on both mental and physical abilities.  Horse riding not only develops muscles helping riders to stretch their flexibility, but also aids learning skills (some more basic than others) alongside the ability to feel independant and free from constraints.  People and horses traditionally have a stong bond, and the horses at Diamond are trained to support disabled riders.  Diamond requires special equipment to support the safety of both rider and horse, alongside the staff who are both volunteers and permenant members.  I (Katy) have worked as a volunteer for many years, helping on most Saturday rides.  I see the benefit and development first hand, and appreciate the goodness that Diamond can bring to many people.  Diamond is a special place that touches not only the riders and staff, but also the families of those connected - it is a chance for all to see the development riding can bring, alongside provide support within a community of similar families.
