Tough Mudder is a 12 mile-long obstacle course designed by the special forces to test all round strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. The challenge appealed to us as it relies heavily on teamwork and is a little bit more ‘interesting’ than just running a distance! Nobody can get through mud, fire, ice-water, 10,000 volts of electricity or get over 12 foot walls and through underground mud tunnels alone!  This challenge isn’t a race, we want it to be fun and we want our team to enjoy it! Apparently only 78% of entrants successfully complete each challenge. We want to be in that 78%! We know it will be a tough 9 months of training but hoping that the pint we’ll be met with at the finish line will make it all worth it.........not to mention the money we’ll be raising for a great cause!

NAME - Emma Paveley & Emma Ilsley

In September 2012 my best friend’s older brother Craig was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He was given two years to live. He immediately underwent aggressive radiotherapy and chemotherapy which enabled him to be comfortable enough to enjoy Christmas with his family including his three small children.

Sadly, despite a tremendously brave fight, Craig lost his battle to cancer in July of last year. EllenorLions were a great support throughout his illness and continued to support his family after he passed away. Craig’s work colleagues raised a remarkable amount for the Royal Marsden last year so it would be wonderful if we could do the same for EllenorLions who cared for him so well.

Emma Ilsley and I are both keen to support this charity. Cancer has affected both our lives in one way or another and hospices are so often forgotten when it comes to fundraising.

EllenorLions Hopsices provide all encompassing hospice care and a seamless service for adults living in Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley and surrounding villages.

Every week, EllenorLions provides hospice care in the family home for 300 adults and 100 children; and each year 250 people receive in-hospice care. This means that in the course of a year; they are in contact with more than 2500 people.

EllenorLions’ services cost over £6m a year but are free of charge to their patients. The vast majority of their money is raised by the local community. They are very dependent on donations, legacies, gifts and fundraising activities to enable them to provide the level of care they do. Which is why all the sponsorship raised as part of this challenge will be so gratefully received!
