Story
Every year a group of friends from the village of Wye in Kent undertakes a physical challenge to raise money for charity.
This year our challenge will see us venturing abroad for the first time to climb the Rumer Spitze in Austria. At 2,454 m, the Rumer Spitze is 1,369 m higher than Snowdon (1,085 m).
We will start our challenge in Sharnitz on the German/Austrian border and will spend the day walking 20 km and climbing 1,000 m to a mountain hut where we will spend the night. The next day we will start our attempt on the summit, after which we follow the Goethweg Trail before we begin our descent into Innsbruck walking a total of just over 20 km.
To make things more interesting we will have to carry everything we need for the four-day trip, including a sleeping bag. With water supplies we will be carrying around 15 kg each.
One of our charities this year, in memory of our friend Christian Smith, is MIND, which provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem and campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
