Story

Hello and thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.

In March 2022, I was privileged and honoured to have joined Human Appeal for a field deployment in Bangladesh for one week.  Having witnessed the difficulties and challenges faced by the young and vulnerable children in Bangladesh I am even more determined to raise awareness and funds so that collectively we can help make a difference to the lives of many.  I met with them, I spoke to them, I listened to their stories, their challenges.  I cannot do this on my own.  I NEED YOUR HELP!

I have once again partnered with Human Appeal to raise funds for the Freedom 50 London to Amsterdam Charity Bike Ride, which will be taking place from 17 June 2022 to 20 June 2022 - starting in London and finishing in Amsterdam.  The ride will be stopping at Calais, Bruges, Oostvoorne  and finishing in Amsterdam.

We will be raising funds for vulnerable children in Bangladesh (where most needed).  Helping children to stay safe and giving them access to education and support to grow safely and giving them a chance to a future helping to lift them out of poverty.

Please donate what you can and help change the life of a child.  Every child has the right to a childhood.

A bit about me - Aftab Rahman

I was born in Bangladesh and came to the UK at the age of 6 and have lived in Birmingham all my life.  My father had two brothers, one of them came to UK and the youngest stayed in Bangladesh to manage our estate.  I returned to Bangladesh at the age of 9 for a year and then again at the age of 22.  I was not prepared for the culture shock and the dire poverty that my uncle’s family was facing.  It was a stroke of fate that I arrived to the UK whilst my cousins remained in Bangladesh.  Since then, I have supported my immediate relatives with business ventures, some became a success whilst others didn’t
and I continue to support them.  Over the years I have donated tube wells to people in Bangladesh, so that they could have access to clean water, something we take granted for in the UK.

I need your help to make a difference the lives of poor vulnerable children in Bangladesh

Once again I have partnered with Human Appeal to amplify my charitable efforts. I am working with an inspirational group of people and we have come together under the banner of Freedom 50 and we have set ourselves a target to raise £100k, we have almost met half our target.

There are two projects in Bangladesh that are close to my heart, the support for street children in Dhaka and the plans to build a school for Sircer Pasha Welfare Trust (SPWT) in Jamalpur.

Being in the UK we have access to free education and I want to make that a reality for some of the children in Bangladesh.  The support provided to the street children of Dhaka is a life line for the young people being supported.  Being a parent of two daughters, I cannot imagine that they would ever have to spend a day on the street.

I feel privileged and honoured to be able to support Human Appeal, however, there is only so much I can do on my own.  With your support and good will I believe we can reach our target of £100k.

Freedom50 Is a national initiative with individuals and organisations that have come together to form a collective to celebrate 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence.   Through Freedom 50, key events that led to the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 will be recognised together with the role that British Bangladeshis played in the UK.  This four day European bike ride is one of many events to help raise awareness of global climate challenges. The bike ride will raise awareness of the impact of global warming amongst the UK’s British Bangladeshi and other communities and highlight the health benefits of cycling. Health inequalities have disproportionately impacted the Bangladeshi community, and during Covid 19 this was further exacerbated. Last year’s national bike ride encouraged more Bangladeshi people to use their bikes for exercise and commuting. We aim to build on this momentum and encourage more people to make small changes that make an impact on climate change.
