My name is Chantelle Tompson and I have decided to shave my head to raise money for Bliss. My hair has always been seen as a big thing to me and help my confidence as I always struggled with feeling good enough. I have 2 premature children and I remember when I had my first I was 18 and it was a terrifying time knowing that there was nothing I could do for my little girl and her life was in the hands of the hospital. My little girl was born 3 months premature with Pulmonary stenosis, as well as during her stay in the NICU she got a heart infection, a lung infection, MRSA and wasn’t tolerating food for the first month. It is hard as a parent to trust someone else knows what is best for your baby. I remember getting a call in the middle of the night to tell me my daughter had dropped and had to be resuscitated and was placed back into the urgent care ward. She is now healthy and 4 years old.

My son was born 2 months premature and when he was born he took a turn for the worse and was placed on life support as the hospital he was in wasn’t allowed to resuscitate him as they didn’t have the equipment or staff to do so. So he was transferred to a different hospital. He is now only a year old but healthy and happy.

After both my experiences it made me realise I want to be able to help provide the best support for sick babies and as a parent during the worst times you pray that they have everything they need to treat your babies at hand so you know they have a great change of getting better. It was terrifying my son wasn’t able to be resuscitated where he was born and was having to be transported to a different. I want to help provide that for hospitals. This is a passion of mine one that has made me realise beauty is such a small thing compared to be alive and healthy. That is what is important in the world not the way you look. I will be proud of my new look and wear it with pride knowing that I have helped give sick babies a head start in the fight to be healthy and to live a long fulling life.
