Story
Hello everyone,
Well, this is it.....
The BIG ONE.
The London Marathon!!!!!!!!
I remember watching the very first London Marathon on the TV on a sunday morning, and thinking 'That's amazing'. I was 8.
From then onwards, when ever I wrote a list of ambitions, 'do the London Marathon' was always there, most noticably on the list of 'Things I want to do before I'm 40' which Phil made me write shortly after we were told he was terminally ill.
Life without Phil isn't easy. On the very worst days it is the knowledge that he would be proud of the fact that I am trying to carry on with my life which keeps me going, and the fact that he wanted me to try to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care was what started me running. This will be the last big fundraising effort - so please give generously!
In February of 2008 I was a somewhat overweight non-runner. Now, two years later, having lost over 4 stone, and joined a running club, I have nine 5km races, regular parkruns in Banstead Woods, three 10km races and one half marathon behind me, countless hours of training runs completed, and a place for the 2010 Virgin London Marathon secured. Scarey stuff!
At the moment, April 2010 seems to be approaching at the speed of light, and it will doubtless continue to do so - I have a lot of money to raise, so please help - you know the drill, please give whatever you can afford, and send the link to anyone else you know who is either generous, wealthy, generally wonderful or indeed all of these things!
Training blog - for those who are interested - can be found on http://dqnic.livejournal.com and very silly it is too!
Marie Curie Cancer Care offer support in so many ways to those who are dying of cancer, and to their families. The care is provided free of charge, because of the donations from people like you - MCCC receive no funding from the government.- please dig deep. 1 in 3 of us will suffer from cancer in our life times.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you for reading - please sponsor me now!
Lots of love,
Nicki.
