Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday 17th August 2013, I will begin my bike ride from Woodville, Derbyshire to Portsmouth,UK. Whilst there I will take the ferry to the Isle of White and do a coastal lap. I will then do the return leg back to Woodville. The total journey will be approx. 380 miles.
I will be cycling alone with only a small spares and tool kit on the bike.
For the Froomes and Wiggins out there, this distance might seem relatively short, but to myself it will be a huge challenge. The furthest I have cycled in one hit is 78miles. So to do 100 and get up and do it again the next morning is a test im looking forward to.
My first days ride will take me 107 miles to Reading where will stop overnight and then complete the outbound leg to Gosport the following day.
I will be staying in Gosport near Portsmouth for a few days, within which I will complete the Isle of White leg of the trip.
I will depart from Gosport on Friday 23rd August and stop overnight in Buckingham (100 miles) and complete the final leg the following morning.
I have been training for the ride for the last two months.
I use a Garmin Forerunner 610 GPS watch whilst training. This gives me the ability track my route accurately and upload the sessions to computer and the Garmin Connect website.
I regularly share my data to my Charity Cycle Facebook Page so you can see how I'm doing.
This will also allow you to see that I have completed the journey. I will upload data after each leg to http://connect.garmin.com/profile/andycorns , you will also be able to view my training history here too.
All hotel costs and bike equipment has been funded by myself, and all funds raised will go to Woodville Pre - School.
I'd like to give a huge thankyou to Jo Aubrey for all the time and effort she gave in setting up the account with Just Giving.. thanks Jo x
Why I wanted Woodville Community Pre-school be to be my charity.
When I first decided to do this bike ride, it was initially going to be for the challenge alone. After talking to a friend (JoLee), she suggested that I do it for a good cause.
As there are so many worthwhile charities, I spent ages deciding on which it would be. I finally decided that there was a Reg.charity close to home.
Always with a smile on their faces, the staff at Woodville Community Pre-school give their children a great start in learning and education.
I hope that this Charity Cycle Ride helps raise funds for the school and gives the staff recognition for the great job that they do with our children.
