This page has been created as an online donation home for the charity opera Gala that will take place at the Birmingham Conservatoire, on the 26th of April.

I suppose I should briefly explain my personal reasons for wanting to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Trust.

When I was 4 years old I very suddenly lost my father to cancer, it was mesothelioma, which is an extremely aggressive form of cancer which until recently had no treatment available, and still has no cure. The nurses that came to the house provided amazing emotional support to my mother who had four young children at the time and also primarily to the care of my father.

 

Sadly 5 years ago, in my first year of University, my mother was diagnosed with Terminal Cancer and was cared for again by the fantastic nurses at the Liverpool branch of the Marie Curie Trust. They are invaluable to the help of families and individuals who have been affected by cancer. It is one of the largest cancer care organisations, and provides free cancer care to patients in their own homes.

Both these personal tragedies of course affected my life dramatically but now I really want to give something back to the charity that helped make my mother and fathers last days as comfortable as possible.
