Story
Charity Week for Orphans is a week when everyone comes together and hits the streets to help raise funds for orphans around the world. From the 20th-26th October 2008 University and College students, School children, and Businessmen from all over the UK will unite to help raise funds for orphans, in their own creative and fun ways. The idea behind Charity Week is simple, to work together and help make a difference to the lives of orphans around the world. Charity Week started in 2004 as collaboration between Islamic Relief and ULU ISOC in London and now, with the help of FOSIS, Charity Week has spread to the corners of the UK (Even Australia!).
This is the first year that Scotland is on board and so far we have a growing list of organizations taking part – including: GUMSA, CUMSA, SUMSA, YM, USIS, IsocED Heriot Watt Isoc, AUMSA, DUIS, St Andrews Isoc, YYI, Giffnock Urdu School, Eastwood Urdu School, FOSIS Scotland and others!
As a result of the enthusiasm, creativity and commitment of the students of previous years, the funds raised from previous Charity Week’s have gone towards many different projects including the sponsoring hundreds of orphans from the south east Asia earthquake, an 'orphans day' in 4 cities in Iraq and 4 cities in Palestine, building of a girls orphanage in Somalia, an orphanage in Coxs Bazaar Bangladesh, a school for orphans in Kenya - and many others!
