Story

My name is Charlene Hegarty & alongside my little brother Michael Hegarty we will make our first full marathon attempt on Monday 7th May 2012 @ The Belfast City Marathon.

We have worked hard to build to a point where we feel that crossing the finish line is a possibility. The training has helped us challenge ourselves and hopefully achieve something neither of us would have thought possible had we not put ourselves in this position.

There are lots of worthwhile causes to consider when fundraising and we have decided to support a very independent volunteer led charity called Assisi Animal Sanctuary.

We have been aware of their great work for many years and while most people act very responsibly when it comes to caring for an animal, situations can change and animals can become vunerable.

Assisi have become a safehaven for pets and wildlife and they do wonderful work in caring for and rehoming thousands of animals per year. Assisi operate a 'No Kill Policy' which compliments both Michael & I in our love for animals and my vegetarian lifestyle. Assisi's annual running costs are £400,000 of which they receive zero government aid and are therefore dependant on donations.

We hope you will help us support them through your donations. Every single penny counts and our stern effort to complete the marathon will be in gratitude for your pledge.

C & M xx
