Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

Randomly I took all of a minute to decide to do this marathon. Well, I may have misheard the bit about the actual ‘half marathon’, I was just up for a trip to Portugal’s capital. As soon as I put the phone down, I realised that some serious running was in order to get myself geared up for this challenge.

I’ve always enjoyed running and the longest distance I’ve done is 10km. I came third in a women’s race in the Falklands. Battling the wind and rain in Stanley.  I like to consider that my best running achievement to date. Mainly because I got a my first trophy! Surely it was national 10km as it was the Falklands?! So does that make me a ‘national’ bronze medallist? I like to think so!

I’m running for the BFBS Big Salute which supports six forces charities: Help For Heroes, BLESMA, Combat Stress, St Dustan’s, Veteran’s Aid and Headley Court.

Working in a forces environment means that I have a lot for respect for the work our guys and girls do. Sometimes when things go wrong they need help and support and a lot of what these charities do is nothing short of what they deserve.

To see some of the traumas our service men and women face during and after their service is shocking. Just the sheer strength and courage shown by our heroes is so inspirational and that’s what I’m going to remember when I’m running.

I know that there’s a lot of charity work around at the moment but any spare wonga you may have to donate would be greatly received. I just want to help in any way that I can for a cause I believe so strongly about. Now then, better get back to training……..where’s those pink sweatbands?!
