We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page.

On 21st October 2023, Charles Blackwell & Gildas Walton will begin the hike up Mount Kilimanjaro, with the goal of reaching the summit at almost 20,000 feet above sea level. It’s something we discussed doing just before Covid struck and now we’re booked and ready to go. As well as ticking off a bucket-list item and celebrating 40-years of friendship, we’re going to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research.

Alzheimer’s is a disease that we have both been personally affected by but it also affects around 10% of people age 65 and over, with devastating effects not only on the patients, but also on the family members around them. Charles’s father Simon was diagnosed right at the end of his working life and the disease effectively stole his well-earned happy retirement years from him and the family, so we’re doing this for him and all those that are impacted by this cruel disease.

Today, there are no dementia survivors, but research can change this. Alzheimer’s Research UK is challenging the way people think about dementia, uniting the big thinkers in the field and funding the innovative science that will deliver a cure. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
